The
Waste Free Lunch Committee recently distributed this letter to all the
families in Prospect Sierrra:
Dear Prospect Sierra families,
The
4th grade has decided to start reducing, reusing and recycling more
seriously. The 4th grade has
divided into four committees. One of the
committees is a Waste Free Lunch committee, which will be working to
reduce the
amount of garbage Prospect Sierra makes by encouraging students to
bring a
waste free lunch.
What
is a waste free lunch? A waste free lunch means that you don’t bring
anything
in your lunch that has to be thrown away or recycled.
Recycling is certainly good. But
not having anything that needs to be
recycled or thrown away is even better.
For example, instead of wrapping your sandwich in tinfoil, which
could
be recycled, put it in a Tupperware container that your child can bring
home.
We will have our first
Waste Free Lunch Day on Thursday, February 16.
Hopefully, everyone will participate by bringing a waste free lunch
that
day. We will be going around to the
different tables at lunch to see who has a waste free lunch. Hopefully
we will
have very little trash on February 16.
After that day, we will
still going around to see who has a waste free
lunch. If we see that you have a
waste
free lunch, we will give you an award. The class with the most awards
will get
a prize.
We are asking you to try to bring waste free lunches. If you can’t do it everyday, be sure that your lunch containers are recyclable. We can save the earth a little bit at a time.
